Commander’s Notes
Greetings:
I hope this finds everyone safe and healthy as we continue to deal with the COVID 19 virus with no end in sight. This has been a tough and difficult year for everyone. The elections are in a couple of days and not knowing what happens afterward.
The Post’s regular monthly meeting will be November 4th at 7:00pm in the BINGO hall. We will be doing several Veteran’s Day
programs on November 11th, unfold and fold the flag, prayer, rifle firing and taps. Events will be at Elkhart Prairie Cemetery (CR 27 and CR 38) at 8:30 am and Violett Cemetery at 9:30 am. The regular Veteran’s Day program will start at 11:00 am at the Elkhart County Courthouse then Oakridge Cemetery after the Courthouse.
Then it’s back to the Post for ham & beans with cornbread. Jerri and Jan said that they will be preparing a meal on Thanksgiving day at the Post for anyone who does not have a place to go for Thanksgiving. So the Post will be open for a few hours on November 26th. I want to thank Jerri and Jan and those that will be helping them for doing this.
We an to thank our veterans, past and present for all they have done. As we come into the holiday season with Thanksgiving and Christmas, I hope everyone has a safe and joyous season.
All for now,
Your Commander
George Buckmaster
P.S. 1st Wednesdays, House Committee 6:00, Post Officers 7:00 meetings.
Adjutant’s Notes:
Well, fall sure has fallen and it’s gotten downright nippy! Holy cow… I just wanted to remind all of you about food at the V, pretty much every week night. You really need to stop by and enjoy some of Jerri’s, Lippert’s, and the other volunteers’ meals. As of this writing, the Treasure Chest is up now over $9,800!
Wednesday, November 11th is our annual Veterans Day ceremony and it will be held at the Courthouse at 11 AM. QM Don Malott said he wanted to hold a ceremony at some of the cemeteries here in Goshen on that day, prior to and just post of the ceremony at the courthouse. Please take note of what he puts out and attend these too if you can.
With Thanksgiving and Christmas just around the corner, please remember our troops stationed abroad and their families who are especially missing them. If we lived near a military base, I’d suggest taking one or two of them in for dinner on the holidays! It was a really nice thing to do when I was on active duty.
If you’re around in early December, I’m planning on hosting the Annual “Cops and Kids” (formerly known as Shop with a Cop) program at the V. Very long story short, I can’t call it “shop with a cop” due to the name being copywritten by “a gentleman” who owns a solicitation company in Ohio. He trademarked it and we have to pay him to use it.
If you have gently used toys, I could sure use them. The guideline is anything that kids between 8 to 12 would like, however, these are the toys that will be taken home to their siblings who will mostly be younger or older than them. If you’d be so inclined, please let me know what and how many you’ll be dropping off at the V. The date will be either the first or second Monday in December. I just need to know so I can plan on them, and thank you!
Trivia for the month(s): 1) Who played the original Invisible Man (in the movies); and 2) What role (or character) is the best known for? (in another movie).

To all, I hope and pray all is well! Certainly, these are uncertain times with the rioting, Covid-19, and a divided nation. Please take the time to pray for the healing of our country, a vaccine for the Covid-19, and an end to the violence you read every day!
I want you to know I pray for our veterans and your families! Please remember we care at the VFW. God be with you!

Editor’s Notes:
Several things are going on the next 2 months so please keep your eyes and ears open for details for all of the events.
Obviously, November 11th is Veteran’s Day, please join us at the courthouse at 11 am for the annual ceremony and then return to the Post for Ham & Beans with cornbread. There will also be a Red Cross blood drive in the Post parking lot on the 11th, please take the time to help someone in need.
November 14th will be breakfast starting at 8:00 am ‘til 10:30.
November 21st the Post will be sponsoring a garage sale and craft bazaar. I believe there are NO more tables available to sell but stop by from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm and see what kind of bargains you can find. Each person keeps the money from their sales. There will be food available during the day.
Thanksgiving Day we will be serving dinner to anyone that would like to join us. This is open to the public and if you know of anyone that doesn’t have a place to go, please let them know that we will be serving from 12 to 3. Volunteers are welcome.
Friday, November 27th will be our annual Black Friday Party with music from High Life. It’s always a great time.
December will have our kid’s Christmas party and Jam Session on December 13th and our New Year’s Eve Party. The Auxiliary is also having a silent auction for baskets, similar to the ones we had for the golf outing. Watch for the baskets and the bid sheets, coming soon.
Keep your eyes open to our Facebook page and website for announcements and specific information about our upcoming events.
