Commander’s Notes

Greetings:

As we get closer to Spring and the end to cold and snow, I hope everyone is healthy and safe. We still have the Coronavirus, though things seem to be getting better. We still need to wear our masks and social distance to be safe.

Things here at the V are starting to get back to get back to somewhat normal, if there is a normal. We have started the Treasure Chest and BINGO again and the reg-ular rotation for Friday meals. Be sure to come in and en-joy some of the food.
I want to thank all our volunteers, but we can still use more. So, if you have a few hours available we could use you.

Our Valentines Dinner and Dance went very well and we had a nice crowd and good food.

Keep all our veterans and families in your thoughts. Well I think that is all for now. Stay Safe.

God Bless America!

Your Commander
George Buckmaster
P.S. 1st Wednesdays, House Committee 6:00, Post Officers 7:00 meetings.

Adjutant’s Notes:

Hey to all my brothers n sisters at the V! lol well as of this writing, the weath-er finally broke it’s a downright balmy 42 degrees. Almost time to break my bike out!
I did want to remind you about some upcoming stuff here at the V, we are having music again now that Covid has calmed down somewhat. Please stop in and enjoy the food n music, and of course the rest of the cool kids that hang out here.
We’re also having a St Paddy’s Day show and dinner! Woo-hoo how cool is that? Tickets are available now, so get ‘em while they’re hot! Really, just printed them and you need to let them cool down so the ink dry’s… yes, I kill me…

Don’t forget on Thursday, April 1st don’t take any phone messages from Mr Lyons to call him back at the Chicago Zoo; he’s off that day. As far as more upcom-ing stuff, we’ll be going to the District-3 meeting on Sunday, March 7th in North Liberty. If you can make it, please do so; get to know some of the district or state officers that go.

If you didn’t give blood at the Post when Robin Rigsby scheduled it, there is a Red Cross blood drive you can call and make an appt. It’ll be at the First Baptist Church on Monday, March 1st. This also counts for your Community Service, something we have to report every month. Snow shoveling, or snow blowing (for neighbors – not you, sorry) if your lazy like me also counts. Please, if you’re a Post member, get me some of these things you do so I can put them on my report!

Well, I’d probably better wrap things up before Jan get carpel tunnel, and a huge thanks to Jan too for all the hard work she puts in.

Trivia for this edition: In the TV show Last Man Standing, What’s the differences in Mike office and Eds? (only 1 this month)

Chaplain’s Corner

Good news is Spring is coming soon but bad news, winter is still here. I pray all is well with all of you however I know many people are struggling and need our prayers. God listens and be patient for the blessings you deserve. We all need to pray for the blessings of our soldiers presently serving and for those who served before!

Asking for your help. If you know a veteran who is in need of our help, please contact the VFW. We do have some resources to help.

First and foremost any event listed in the newsletter or on the calendar is subject to change thanks to ’Rona.

We are still in desperate need of helpers, who are members to assist with BINGO! Mary has decided to step away from BINGO (hopefully only for a little while). We need callers and someone willing to learn the paperwork and money portion of BINGO. Please let me know if you are interested in helping.

Jerri has agreed again to have her stuffed burgers for the 5th Friday in April, so keep that in mind. Plus we will have Phil Jones performing his one man show that night from 7 to 10.

We are planning a St. Patrick’s Day party on March 13th. Dinner will be Corned Beef and Cabbage plus fixin’s. High Life will be playing from 7 to 10. Tickets are available now behind the bar.

Also, Tony Alberry has been gracious enough to cook for us for a Steak Fry on April 10th. We will have Peanut providing entertainment that evening. Dinner at 5, music as 7 as usual. More information to come.

We are still working on trying to get the Jam Sessions started but talking to some of the musicians, they are still a little leery of sharing microphones. It may be next fall before we can get them started again, but we haven’t given up.
Last, I would like to thank everyone that has helped keep our VFW open through all the trials and tribu-lations. Obviously, when you come in and enjoy our food, drinks and companionship, everybody wins.

Hoping for sunny days, warmer weather and thing back to normal!
